“Command and teach these things. Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.” (1 Tim 4:11-16)

The focus of this year’s Iron on Iron Student Ministry Conference will be the priority of the minister’s personal holiness. The internet is filled with study and teaching aids for good reason. Solid teaching is essential, but it cannot be allowed to eclipse the importance of our individual walk with the Lord. Paul is telling Timothy (and us) to make sure we are teaching the truth about God and His Word, but it needs to be lived out in our own lives in public and behind closed doors. Our desire is to emphasize our dependence on Scripture, the work of the Holy Spirit, and to make the glory of God manifest in our lives. This echoes the words of the great Scottish preacher Robert Murray M’Cheyne when he said, “The greatest need of my people is my personal holiness.”

*An optional pre-conference is available, beginning with a small breakfast and lunch on Friday. See the schedule below for details. There is no additional cost for the pre-conference. The main conference begins with dinner at 6:30 pm on Friday.
