Snowbird Missions and Outreach is a service program focused on relational ministry and intentional time in the Word of God. We provide outlets for students to serve through weeklong missions projects, but the project is secondary to our goal of pointing students to Jesus. Whether painting a house, repairing a roof or building a handicap ramp, we teach students to grow in an unwavering understanding of the Gospel. We pursue this goal through solid biblical teaching and personal staff-student relationships both on and off the job site.

We suggest each group brings one skilled laborer, but this is not a requirement. The Snowbird Missions staff is ready and equipped to run the entire worksite.

SMO summer camp is designed to teach your students the importance of serving others through work projects and Bible study while building a biblical community within your group. While here, your students will not only develop skills in practically serving others, but they’ll also spend time learning how to study Scripture and living out their lives like Christ.

In one week of SMO summer camp, your group will work on a project for 3 afternoons. On Friday, your group will go whitewater rafting and participate in on-campus recreation.

The cost for one week of Summer Missions camp is per person and includes a materials fee for the work project. This price includes all 5 nights of lodging, 14 meals, 3 workdays, and 1 full day of recreation (rain or shine). One price covers ALL activities and meals your group will participate in from registration on Monday to departure on Saturday.

How do I register and prepare for arrival?

Click the Register button to set up your Snowbird account and pay a small deposit (per person) to register your group for a fall retreat.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out. Call us at 828.321.2210 or email us anytime. We’re here to help!

What type of work will we be doing?

SMO projects may include anything from painting, repairing a roof, cleaning projects and mowing lawns to small construction projects like building a wheelchair ramp or reinforcing a porch. We suggest each group brings one skilled laborer, but this is not a requirement. The Snowbird Missions staff is ready and equipped to run the entire worksite.

What should we bring?

Check out our What to Bring page to learn all the details for your Winter SWO student retreat.

What recreation do you provide?

You’ll have the opportunity to participate in our on-campus recreation on Fridays afternoon during the Summer. Please click the button below to learn more, but this generally includes activities like paintball, climbing tower, giant swings, and others (limited by time).

What types of housing do you provide?

We have over 14 cabins on our campus, divided by bedrooms for each group. They each provide twin-sized bunk beds, air conditioning, and heat. Our cleaning team takes great pride in keeping things clean but the buildings are primarily functional.

You’ll need to provide your own bedding, pillow and towels. One of our 4 bathhouses is always a short walk from each cabin.

What is included for my students in the cost?

The cost for one week of Summer Missions camp is per person and includes a materials fee for the work project. This price includes all 5 nights of lodging, 14 meals, 3 workdays, and 1 full day of recreation (rain or shine). One price covers ALL activities and meals your group will participate in from registration on Monday to departure on Saturday.

Are groups required to pay an additional site fee?

No, SMO Missions camps and retreats don’t require a site fee. The materials expense has been combined into the per-person camp cost in order to simplify group registration and planning.

How do we get to the SMO worksite?

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, your church will need to provide your own vehicles to transport students to and from work sites. We generally travel less than 20 miles from the Snowbird campus, but please contact us if you have any questions about the details.

How do I add or drop additional spots to my group?

You can add additional spots to your group as long as the retreat is not full. The best way to find out is to open your Snowbird Account and see if there are any remaining spots open for the retreat. However, you’ll want to only register spots that you’re certain you’ll need. The deposit is non-refundable.

Check our Registration Guide for details on how to invite specific students to your group via email.

What ages attend Snowbird Missions & Outreach Camps?

Our SMO Missions Camps are for middle and high school students, and churches are required to bring adult-age chaperones.

Do we need to have experience in any of the work projects or activities to come to Snowbird?

Each worksite is managed by trained staffers. There is no prior experience needed, as staff will teach your students and facilitate a safe and effective service environment.

About Snowbird Missions & Outreach

From the beginning, Snowbird’s founders desired to impact members in the local community. Missions projects were a part of every camper’s daily activities. Each morning campers would serve elderly women in the community through yard work, housekeeping and cleanup projects. In 2005, those missional opportunities further evolved into SMO (Snowbird Missions & Outreach), a fully operational summer missions program within Snowbird, directed by Shawn Clark.

SMO offers more than a mission camp experience. Committed to Gospel‐centered teaching and relational ministry, we focus on training students to serve in their communities as a platform to share the Gospel. The mission of our staff is to invest in students out of a genuine, Gospel‐driven passion for their salvation and discipleship.
