SWO Staff: Sarah Trego

What is your role at SWO?

I am currently a part of the Institute program at Snowbird. I take classes through the College of Southeastern and work in the housekeeping department. Most of my job includes maintaining cleanliness at camp in preparation for students. I also work with students as they come in for different retreats. I volunteered at Snowbird in the summer of 2018 on Servant Team, I worked as a counselor in 2019, and I was in the SWO Institute program 2019-2020.

How did you hear about SWO?

I came to Snowbird as a camper in the summers of 2016 and 2017 with my church. One of my counselors had told me about Servant Team and in 2018 I was looking for a summer program to serve at. I began to pray about working at SWO and the Lord opened the doors to allow me to work here. I absolutely loved it and from there I came back as a counselor.

What is your favorite SWO memory?

It’s so hard to pick just one favorite memory! One of my fondest memories working here at SWO is when my intern group hiked up to the cell towers, watched the sunset, and spent the night worshipping and praising the Lord together. It was such a cool moment to be surrounded by believers praising the Lord and getting to stand in awe of His creation.

What is your favorite camp meal?

My favorite camp meal is our Mexican night!

What is your favorite rec?

My favorite on-campus rec has to be the Goliath swing and my favorite off-campus rec, besides the river, is canoeing.

What was the best part about being in the SWO Institute?

The best part about being in the Institute program at SWO is the community and the growth. I have never been a part of such a great healthy community like the one I have at SWO. It is not perfect but Snowbird does a great job of representing the body of Christ and the people who work here are very relational and intentional. I’m thankful for genuine friendships that point me to Christ and encourage me to know Him more. In my time spent at Snowbird, I have grown so much. Other interns and I will often joke that Snowbird adds 5 years of life physically and spiritually. Although we are just playing around, working here has really grown me in so many ways. I have been stretched and challenged and I have come to know Christ more because of it.

What is your salvation story?

I was raised in a Christian home and my parents were very good about not only talking to us about Jesus a lot, but also living out what it looks like to follow Him. When I was around 8 I knew I wanted to give my life to the Lord and after discussing what Christ did for me on the cross with my dad, I did. When I was 12 my brother passed away in a car accident and in that time the Lord really showed me the importance of following Him because life is but a breath. In that time I learned to cling to Christ and although I had already surrendered my life to Christ, that is when I really began to pursue Him.

In this season, what is the Lord teaching you?

As my intern year wraps up I feel like I am entering into a time of having to make a lot of decisions especially about the future and what’s next. The Lord has taught me so much throughout my intern year about Himself and right now I feel like He is teaching me how to wait patiently. There are a lot of unknowns in life right now and more that I will be facing. Through all of it, the Lord has been so gracious to show me how faithful He is and that I need to rely on Him. Reliance on Christ has been a theme in my intern year in various ways and seasons. Right now, it’s to rely on Christ for He is the One who holds tomorrow. I am constantly reminded to trust Him, wait on Him, and I am learning what it looks like to be still before the Lord.

What are you currently reading?

Right now I am studying through Hebrews along with a Psalm a day.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Long term and after Snowbird I hope to continue to work in ministry somewhere and I hope I can do that using the talents and gifts the Lord has given me. I have been interested in graphic design so thoughts of going to school for graphic design and working towards learning it better are also an option. There are a lot of options that I am thinking through as I look to the future, but whatever I do, I hope to bring glory to the Lord.

What is one thing you want the person reading this to know?

Two of my favorite quotes are “there is purpose in the preparation” and “don’t be living this season of life waiting for the next”. Wherever you may be, lean into Christ. There is purpose in the season He has you in. Don’t miss what the Lord could be doing in this season by wishing it away to the next.
