OLDS – Winter Expedition Recap
The Winter Expedition was a success! Students returned from Colorado with huge smiles and lots of stories. Over the 10 days we spent with Expedition Backcountry Adventures, our students learned a lot of new skills. They went through avalanche training and learned how to skin and backcountry ski. Students also had the opportunity to ice climb on two different frozen waterfalls! They learned the basics of winter camping which involved things like building snow shelters, digging snow caves, and learning tips and tricks for staying warm. It was a packed few days and the group became really close in the process.
One of the main themes that came out of this section was unity and the importance of sharing your story. Each night in the backcountry two people shared their story of how they came to know the Lord. It was a challenge for some to verbalize and be vulnerable with the group but there was visible growth as individuals and also in the group as a whole.
OLD School wants to say a huge thank you to Expedition Backcountry Adventures for hosting and leading our students in Colorado. They did an amazing job guiding us through the backcountry and teaching new skills. We love this partnership and are thankful to work alongside like-minded outdoor professionals.
