2015 Fall Semester

Why did you decide to do OLD School?

When I was a kid I always wanted to do outdoorsy stuff like this, but there isn’t really much opportunity to do those things in Florida. I felt like it was something that would be fun and because it focuses on leadership and discipleship, I knew it would help me grow closer to God and increase my spiritual disciplines.

Why did you decide to do OLD School?

What were the biggest things you’ve learned this semester?

I learned that I’m not as good at trusting people as I like to think I am. I also learned to rappel down a mountain, and how to do the outdoor rescue skills I wanted to learn.

What would you tell someone who is considering OLD School?

Well, I can’t really think of any reason not to do it. There are some physical restraints, obviously, but if I can do it then you can definitely do it! Each day won’t be easy, in fact, there will be days that are super hard. Pray about it! I wasn’t exactly sure what I was walking into, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

What was your favorite section and why?

My favorite section was the Wilderness First Responder course. It really stood out to me because of the fact that I’ve really wanted to learn all these skills since I was young. It was cool to finally get to learn those. Other than that I would say rock climbing and primitive skills were my other two favorites.

How have you grown since beginning OLD School?

This will be hard for me to answer because I’m bad at seeing changes within myself. I think the most obvious thing I’ve grown in is my spiritual discipline. Hopefully that is something I will continue to grow in.

How will OLD School help you in the future?

Even if I never do anything with the wilderness skills in the future, the spiritual disciplines course really helped, and getting to experience what true Biblical community looks like is something that I will take with me forever.
