Missions Monday: Spring SMO
This year for Spring SMO, Hillside UMC traveled with us to Franklin, North Carolina to serve an addiction and recovery ministry: Men’s Teen Challenge of the Smokies.
The Teen Challenge mission is to provide youth, adults, and families with an effective and comprehensive Christian solution to life-controlling drug and alcohol problems. It is their goal for men and women to leave their trapped lifestyle and become productive members of society. By applying biblical principles, Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.
The students of Hillside spent the week putting on a new metal roof, painting the exterior and painting some of the interior of the ministry. They also did some minor landscaping outside of the buildings.
We met up with Shawn Grier, one of the SWO staff working on this project, to see how he felt the week went: ” It was a blast working alongside Hillside UMC this week at the Men’s Teen Challenge of the Smokies! It’s so encouraging to see these students’ love for the Lord and their willingness to serve Him…”
