Missions Conference Wrap-up
This past weekend, Snowbird hosted our first SWO Missions Conference. As a staff, we put hours and days of prayer and preparation into the weekend — understanding the huge responsibility we have both to send out the Gospel to the nations and to go ourselves. The mission of Snowbird is to equip the Church to impact this generation, so we are passionate about getting the message of the Gospel across cultures, to the unreached (people who have never heard the name of Jesus).
“Missions is the global work of seeing the Church planted and sent throughout the world.” – Brody Holloway
Brody Holloway, Spencer Davis and Caroline Smith each taught sessions throughout the weekend, but we were also blessed to have four experienced missionaries as guest speakers. Kyle Hoover, a geologist and water & sanitation engineer, has served in both Korea and Liberia. J.C. Christensen has spent much time in Asia in conjunction with business and trade. Brad and Jackie Stanley, who jointly taught the Saturday night session, have amassed numerous years in cross-cultural missions work with unreached people groups in Chicago and West Africa.
Students, leaders and SWO Institute students left the weekend with a clear understanding of God’s command in the Great Commission to reach all peoples with the Gospel. We were also challenged not to waste time waiting until a certain age or education level, but to start building relationships and sharing the Gospel in our own communities right now. Missions is not the work of professionals, it is the work of obedient followers of Christ everywhere who love people, build relationships and share the Gospel. Caroline Smith, fresh off a stint with the IMB in South Asia, pointed students to ways they can prepare and participate right now rather than waiting until graduation. So, it is vital that we know the message of the Gospel and how to explain it to others.
“The local church is God’s first and last plan to reach the nations. Get involved!” – Caroline Smith
“The more you are enthralled with the mystery of God, the greater your passion to tell the world will grow.” – Kyle Hoover
“Look for the greatest concentration of lostness and find a way to get there. There is greater honor in being where Jesus is than being in a safe place. That might be in a mega city somewhere across the globe!” – Brad Stanley
If you missed the fall SWO Missions Conference, we have another one coming up April 24-16, 2015. Check out more details on the Missions Conference page of the SWO website, and bring your students learn more about reaching the ends of the earth with the message of Jesus!
