Brody Holloway : 1 Timothy 4:11-16 : Iron on Iron : Saturday PM

True faith always leads to obedience. A faithful life lived by the Spirit’s direction will be consistent with the pattern of commands in the Bible. As Paul writes, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.” Paul directed Timothy to be obedient in five specific areas:

  1. Speech with people
  2. In conduct among people
  3. In love of others
  4. In faith
  5. In purity

As an aid to Timothy (and us), Paul also provides wise direction on biblical practices to ensure this obedience among pastors and their people. We must be diligent to continue the public reading of Scripture, exhorting Christians toward godliness, and teaching the foundational doctrines of the Gospel. What we believe about the Bible matters because it will affect the way we live and teach. Pastors and teachers, you will not be perfect but you must live a life of faithful humility, consistency, repentance, and intentional pursuit of godliness.
