The unfortunate reality is that for many of our churches today, we have totally neglected the Old Testament because, well… it’s old. But we need to remember that this is God’s Word to us and it still has value to the New Testament believer. It is through the study of the Old Testament that we can see more of the beauty of the Gospel as we reflect on the way that God was preparing His people for His Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Our goal in this retreat will be to use specific examples from the Old Testament to reveal the patterns and types that were shadows of the Gospel of Jesus. In doing so we can more fully appreciate the way that God used the history of the Jewish people to prepare the world for the life-changing message of the Gospel.

Dealing with the logistics that go into planning a winter ski retreat can be overwhelming. So at SWO, we eliminate the hassle by providing an environment where students can have fun skiing and snowboarding, but can also be challenged in their relationship with Christ. We will plan everything for you, so you can just enjoy the weekend.

Ski or no ski, the choice is yours. By intentionally pairing our staff with your group, we are able to individually invest in the lives of your students during meals, services, and recreation but also on the ride over to the slopes, while teaching them to ski/snowboard, riding the lifts and skiing with them through the night.

We typically ski during twilight hours at Cataloochee Ski Area (, which make for smaller lines and a more affordable ski trip. A ski retreat at SWO runs 2-3 nights and includes accommodations, worship and teaching sessions, on-campus recreation, lift ticket and ski rentals.
